On 3 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius had a telephone conversation with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and discussed challenges posed by the global pandemic, as well as other relevant issues of global policy and regional security.
On 3 July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania handed over a verbal note to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vilnius in response to information that had appeared in the public domain regarding serious environmental violations on the D-6 offshore platform on the continental shelf of the Baltic Sea.

On July 1 Lithuania commences the next presidency for the Baltic Sea States Council taking it over from Denmark. During its presidency, Lithuania will focus on sustainable development, particularly in the areas of green economy, ecological and maritime tourism, civil protection, fight against human trafficking for labour exploitation, as well as prevention of violence against children.
On 29 June, Lithuania, together with Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Cyprus and Malta, issued a joint letter signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs/European Affairs and Transport. The letter addressed to Members of the European Parliament calls on the recipients to assess the implications of the so-called Mobility Package 1 proposal for the single market and environmental protection.
On 30 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius attended the fourth Brussels Conference on “Supporting the future of Syria and the region”, which was co-chaired by the European Union and the United Nations. The event was held in a virtual format. L. Linkevičius voiced his consistent support for Syria, activities of the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen, as well as stressed the need to support young people in the country and to ensure accountability for crimes committed in Syria.
On 30 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius bids farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Estonia to Lithuania Jana Vanaveski.
The Ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis hosted a working lunch with the Ambassadors of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) and the Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Tadashi Maeda.
On 26 June, Lithuania’s Honorary Consulate in Heraklion, Crete, officially opened with a virtual ceremony. Yiannis Giakoumakis, who has the authorization to act as the Honorary Consul on the island of Crete, will head the Honorary Consulate.
On 25 June, the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Raimonda Murmokaitė took part in the virtual high-level Sudan Partnership Conference that was organized by Germany, the European Union, and the United Nations. During the event, R. Murmokaitė announced Lithuania’s decision to allocate EUR 25, 000 in humanitarian aid to Sudan. The funds will be transferred to the United Nations World Food Programme.
On 25 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius held a meeting with the outgoing Ambassador of Bulgaria Emil Yalnazov via a video conference.
On 23 June, the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Raimonda Murmokaitė took part in the Extraordinary Virtual Ministerial Pledging Conference on UNRWA hosted by the governments of Sweden and Jordan. The event in support of Palestine refugees and UNRWA was co-chaired by Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and the Foreign Minister of Jordan. The conference aimed to ensure that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) bridged the financial gap and received sufficient resources to continue delivering on its mandate.
On 23 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the outgoing Ambassador of Sweden Maria Christina Lundqvist.
On 19 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius expressed his condolences over the passing of one of the most well known Lithuanian public figures in the United States, the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Florida, the founder of the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture, the patron and an especially eager promoter of the Lithuanian national identity – Stanley Balzek Jr.
On June 18-19, Lithuania took the floor during the interactive dialogue on Ukraine and the general debate on technical assistance and capacity building at the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
