Lithuania is beginning preparation of specialists of nuclear energy, who are starting plans for the construction of a new nuclear power plant once Ignalina shuts down.

Specialists of nuclear energy will be trained from the beginning of the new school year in Vilnius University and Kaunas University of Technology. Physicists will be trained in Vilnius and engineers in Kaunas.

As predicted, after the nuclear power plant is constructed in Lithuania, the demand for specialists will rise, and an increased number of qualified specialists in Lithuania would increase not only the intellectual and economic potential in the country, but also its competitive ability on an international level.

No specialists of nuclear energy are currently being trained in Lithuania, however Kaunas University of Technology used to train specialists of a similar profile a few years back.
