31 December 2008 - 31 May 2009 /Exhibition of Georgian artist Niko Pirosmanishvili (Pirosmani)

At the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Georgia, Vilnius Picture Gallery, which is part of Lithuanian Art Museum, will invite to the exhibition "Pirosmani".

The creative personality of Niko Pirosmanishvili (Pirosmani) (1862-1918) is already known to the Lithuanian audience from the play Pirosmani Pirosmani of the State Youth Theatre (dir. Eimuntas Nekrošius). However, works by this painter have never been displayed in Lithuania. The exhibition will feature 35 pieces from the collection of the Georgian National Museum. Lithuanian and European visitors will have the chance to see works by Lithuania’s well-known Georgian artist and the symbol of Georgian culture, which have previously been exhibited in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, France, Japan, the Ukraine and Turkey. This project is Lithuania’s direct support for Georgia, which strives to become part of the Western world and of NATO.

The exhibition in Vilnius will be the opportunity to look at works by this original and unique painter, which are still relevant today. It will become an important step in reviving and strengthening cultural ties with the Republic of Georgia and its culture institutions.
