ANDRIUS KUBILIUS AND DUTCH GAS GIANTS DISCUSS STRATEGIC GAS MARKET PROSPECTS

Lithuanian Prime Minister A. Kubilius has met with two huge Dutch gas companies GasTerra and Nederlandse Gasunie at the Lithuanian Embassy in the Hague, where they have discussed gas market developments in Europe and the world, gas prices, as well as prospects for European integration of gas networks, and gas supply.

The Prime Minister has also talked on Lithuanian energy reforms and projects, particularly plans for nuclear power plant, liquefied natural gas terminal, the third energy package implementation in the gas sector; he was also interested in the Dutch experience in gas market development.
 
Prime Minister’s interlocutors represent the companies that are among the largest in European gas market.
 
GasTerra is active in global trade and supply of natural gas. Its ownership is shared among the Royal Dutch Shell (25%), ExxonMobil (25%) and the state (50%).
 
Gasunie is a Dutch natural gas infrastructure and supply company operating in the Netherlands and Germany. The company owns about 12,000 km of gas transmission networks in the Netherlands and 3,000 km in Germany. Gasunie holds a 9% share of Nordstream.
 
The Netherlands (after Norway) is the second largest natural gas extractor in Europe. Its largest gas reserve is concentrated in the North Sea, but most gas comes from Groningen gas field, which is among the largest in the world.
