Art exhibition to commemoratte Millennium of Lithuania

   Art exhibition "Independent stories"  was opened on the of 2nd July, at the Berlaymont building of European Commission.

 

INDEPENDENT STORIES consists of interpretation of the European Union flags by seven Lithuanian artists. Twenty-six large flags and two huge ones of Lithuania and the European Union was presented. Each of the flags was created by the group of several artists.

 

The event was opened by Permament Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Rytis Martikonis, Minister of Culture Remigijus Vilkaitis, Lithuania's new Commissioner Algirdas Šemeta and his colleague at EC Jan Figel. 

 

The open­ing of the exhibition included improvisation on INDEPENDENT STORIES by two Lithuanian jazz virtuosos: Petras Vyšniausias and Vladimiras Kaplanas, as well as a screening of video art about Vilnius and Brussels by Henrikas Gulbinas.

Lithuania is celebrating the Millenium of its name (1009-2009) and the 5th anniversary of the country’s accession to the European Union
