BNS: EP election campaign kicks-off in Lithuania Friday
VILNIUS, May 08, BNS - Lithuania's Central Electoral Committee on Friday officially announced the list of political parties running for European Parliament (EP) and their randomly assigned election numbers, thus launching the election campaign.
The domestic election authority has registered all 15 parties, that submitted their application documents. The parties on Wednesday were assigned numbers they will go by in the elections for EP.
The randomly assigned numbers are as follows: the National Resurrection Party will have the number 1, the Front Party has been assigned 2, the Order and Justice 3, Lithuania's Social Democrats 4, the Samogitia Party 5, the Center Party 6, Lithuania's Liberal Movement 7, the Lithuanian Poles' Electoral Action 8, the Civil Democracy Party 9, the Christian Conservative Social Union 10, the Homeland Union - Lithuanian Christian Democrat Party 11, the Labor Party 12, national movement the Lithuanian Way 13, the Liberal and Center Union 14 and finally the Lithuanian Peasant Popular Union with
number 15.
General elections for the new term of the 736-seat EP will take place throughout Europe in the beginning of June of 2009, with the election date in Lithuania set for June 7. Lithuania gets 12 EP mandates.
