BNS: Government approves Lithuania's half-decade strategic EU policy focus areas
VILNIUS, Sep 25, BNS - The government approved Lithuania's European Union (EU) policy focus areas ocument for years 2008 - 2013, identifying Lithuania's EU vision and singling out ten focus areas, which outline Lithuania's most important EU policy priorities for the coming five years, the governmental press service said in a release.
Lithuania, says the government-initiated document, will focus special attention to enhancing ties among Lithuanian citizens with those of other EU member states, aim for more effective functioning of the EU Common Market,also tending to the energy integration, sustainable development and more active EU neighborhood policy.
Selection of focus areas is expected to upturn Lithuania's influence to the EU, warrant more consistent formation and representation of Lithuania's interests and be of use amid Lithuania's preparation for EU presidency.
The said focus areas were put together by a Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas appointed taskforce, made up officials of the President's Office, Seimas and Government administration and ministries.
Prior to its release, content of the aforementioned document was discussed with the academic community, experts from various fields and social-economic partners of the government, also in public consultations.
