BNS: Lithuania supports EU's quests to consolidate relations with Eastern neighbors

VILNIUS, Dec 04, BNS - Lithuania said it supports the European Commission (EC) submitted Eastern Partnership Communique on expanding to include six neighboring states including Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus as soon as it fulfills all necessary requirements.


"Lithuania's Foreign Ministry approves of this document as creating the format for Eastern Partnership cooperation will contribute to warranting stability, security and welfare in the entire region", the Foreign Ministry
said in a statement.

The communique proposes to sign associative agreements with all Eastern European states, create a free trade zone, facilitate the visa regime,increase cooperation in the domains of energy security and social cohesion.

The EC proposes beside intensifying bipartite relations to develop multipartite cooperation in domains of democracy and good governance,economic integration and human relations.

This EC-submitted communique well reflects Lithuania's position to continue providing active support to consolidate European Union's (EU) relations with Eastern neighboring states, the release said, pointing out Lithuania as a supporter of active and effective EU foreign policy, grounded on values and long-term visions.

Approving EC's proposals would boost EU-Eastern neighborhood relations and bring cooperation to a qualitatively new level, the Foreign Ministry release noted.
