BNS: Lithuania to invest EUR 209.5 b in Klaipeda port infrastructure by 2015
VILNIUS, May 19, BNS - Some 722.9 million litas (EUR 209.5 b) should be invested in the infrastructure of the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda by 2015,of which 473.8 million litas should come from the EU's Cohesion Fund, theTransport Ministry said on Tuesday.
The money will be used to implement 14 EU-supported projects, which are on a list approved by Transport Minister Eligijus Masiulis, it said.
One of the biggest projects involves the development of the infrastructure for a passenger and cargo terminal, including almost akilometer of quays. The EU is to contribute 91.3 million litas to the project, whose total value is estimated at 172.6 million litas.
Nine projects, with a total value of 456.3 million litas, including 326million litas in EU aid, are designed to develop and expand the Klaipedar ailway junction. Another four projects, worth around 94 million litas, including 56.5 million litas in EU aid, are aimed at improving 4.5 kilometers of accessroads to multimodal cargo terminals in the southern part of the port and a bridge over the Klaipeda Channel.(EUR 1 = LTL 3.45)
