BNS: LITHUANIA'S ŠEMETA SHOULD HOLD "ECONOMIC FINANCIAL POLICY" PORTFOLIO IN NEW EC -- PM
VILNIUS, Sep 21, BNS - Lithuania's Algirdas Semeta should receive a portfolio of economic and financial policy in the new term of the EuropeanCommission, says Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, however, did not specify the wanted post.
"Prime Minister Kubilius stated that Commissioner Semeta should beentrusted with a key area of economic and financial policy in the new EC tenure that would enable him to make a significant contribution to implementation of economic and financial reforms currently considered by the European Union," the government said in a press release on Monday.
According to the press release, Kubilius stated the stance at a meetingof the European Council in Brussels last week. "Specific areas of responsibility are decided and distributed by EC President Jose Manuel Barroso," said the Lithuanian government. Since July, Semeta has been working as commissioner in charge of budgeting and financial programming after replacing Dalia Grybauskaite who was elected as Lithuania's president.
