COLOUR AND SOUND DIALOGUES. Music composed by M.K. Čiurlionis and his contemporaries
The International Art Exhibition “Colour and Sound Dialogues” will introduce the idea of symbolism and modernism which excited artistic minds during Europe’s Silver Age, i.e. beginning of the XXth century: the search for community of the fine arts and music. It will disclose artistic ideas and spiritual ties that connected great Lithuanian artist M. K. Čiurlionis (1875-1911) and his contemporaries from Western and Central Europe. The works of art displayed in the exhibition will cover the period of the most active development of modernist movements in Europe. From the XIXth century, the diversity of solutions to synthesise painting and music developed and spread in the European art according to the principle of numerous sparkling art centres from Paris to St Petersburg and from Oslo to Vienna, rather than from a powerful centre to periphery. The exhibition will introduce the works of art created by Vasilij Kandinskij, Max Klinger, Pēter Krastiņš, František Kupka, Edvard Munch, Ferdinand Ruščic, Stanisław Wyspiański and other outstanding Lithuanian, Polish, Latvian, Czech, Scandinavian, Russian, German, and Dutch artists. He idea of relationship between art and music in these works is realised in different ways: via sounds of nature and universe, urban buzz, musical visions and mirages. Apart from works of the fine arts, materials of the exhibition include documents (such as letters, sketches, music and photographs) and music composed by M. K. Čiurlionis and his contemporaries A. Schönberg, A. Berg, etc. Date: 20 June - 23 August Venue: National Art Gallery of the Lithuanian Art Museum, Konstitucijos Av. 22Curators: Dr. Rasa Andriušytė-Žukienė (Vytautas Magnus University), Osvaldas Daugelis (M.
