EU ECONOMIC POLICY AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS DISCUSSED WITH EUROPEAN COUNCIL PRESIDENT

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the European Council President, Herman Van Rompuy. They discussed such issues as European financial policy coordination, energy policy and commitments with respect to climate change.
President Grybauskaitė underlined it was particularly important to allocate support for Lithuania's energy projects in the EU's next financial perspective.
The President of Lithuania and the President of the European Council also discussed the proposal laid out in the letter of 6 January 2011 from the President Grybauskaitė to EU leaders concerning facilitation of visa regime for Belarusian people.
President Herman Van Rompuy underlined that thanks to the proposal by President Grybauskaitė the EU would seek to intensify cooperation with the civil society of Belarus and would make more efficient use of the EU Eastern Partnership policy for this purpose.
