EU LEADERS EXPRESSED CONDOLENCES FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF THE PRESIDENT ALGIRDAS MYKOLAS BRAZAUSKAS
The President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek and José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission sent the condolences for the passing away of former President and Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas.

The President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek sends his condolences following the death of the former President and Prime-Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Brazauskas, on Saturday 26 June 2010.President Buzek said:
"I would like to pay tribute to President Brazauskas for his significant contribution to his nation's statehood and independence and to Lithuania's successful integration into the EU family and NATO. President Brazauskas passed a long way with his country, being one of the Communist Party Leaders, he decided to join the "Singing Revolution" and help his country to become a proud, independent state, member of the European Union. He belongs to the generation of the legendary leaders of Central Eastern Europe, thanks to whom today we live in whole and free Europe. My sincere condolences go to the family and friends of President Brazauskas and to the entire Lithuanian nation."

“I express my heartfelt condolences to the people of Lithuania for the passing away of former President and Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas.
As President and Primer Minister, Algirdas Brazauskas made a critical contribution to his country’s integration into the European Union. I worked closely with him and have known him as a true statesman who was deeply committed to our European project and its values.
