First Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to EU and NATO died to-night in Paris

Adolfas Jurgis Venskus died to-night in Paris, France, at the age of 82. He was the first Ambassador of independent Lithuania to the European Union and NATO from January 1992 till November 1995.

Adofas Venskus left Lithuania in 1944. He  was an active member of the Lithuanian community in France. Everything he had acquired or learnt during his life was meant to serve the only purpose - re-establishing independence of Lithuania as well as promoting its name internationaly. The Ambassador was especially efficient while preparing the Resolution of the European Parliament on situation in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, of 13th January 1983.

In 1994, the President of the Republic of Lithuania confered the Commander Cross of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas to the Ambassador for his merits to Lithuania.
