ForMin inviting foreigners to take quiz on Lithuania's millennium

Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is holding a quiz for foreigners about the country's culture, politics and history on the occasion of 1,000 years since the first mention of Lithuania's name in written sources. The winner will be presented a trip to Lithuania.

Questions of the quiz titled "Millennium of Lithuania: Culture and History" are available online at http://quiz.mfa.lt .

The quiz contains a total of 15 English-language questions, for instance, participants are asked to indicate Lithuania's first king of the battle involving Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas, the features of Constitution of May 3 1791 or ways used by Lithuanians to escape the tzar's ban on publishing of Latin-character books, etc.

The Foreign Ministry said the quiz would end on July 15, with winners announced online on July 20.

The winner of the quiz will be drawn from all those who provide correct answers to all questions and will be awarded a four-day trip to Lithuania for two persons. The trip will include a tour of Lithuania's capital Vilnius, former capitals of Trakai and Kernave, the Baltic Sea coast and the picturesque Curonian Spit. The guests will also have an opportunity to attend events of Vilnius the European Capital of Culture 2009 and celebrations of the millennium anniversary.

Ten more persons who answer correctly will receive smaller prizes established by the ministry.

2009 marks 1,000 years since the name of Lithuania was first mentioned in the description of the death of St. Bruno in the Annals of Quedlinburg.
