Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Keit Pentus-Rosimannus who arrived in Lithuania on her first working visit 28 November. Bilateral and regional cooperation, security and energy issues were discussed during the meeting.

“Cooperation with Estonia and other countries in the region is one of the priorities of Lithuania”, L.Linkevičius stated.

Officials noted that integration of the Baltic States into the European energy system is underway; the liquefied natural gas terminal in Klaidpėda, as well as the planned gas pipeline connection between Estonia and Finland, is very important factors in creating the regional gas market.

The Lithuanian Minister underlined the necessity to support Ukraine in every possible way and to encourage it to implement the necessary reforms; he also urged to continue to have a common position with respect to Russia.

“It is only by acting in solidarity that we shall be able to defend our common interests and values”, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister noted.

During the meeting an ever-growing significance of information security was underlined. L. Linkevičius noted that only actively cooperating and offering the attractive alternatives shall we be able to outweigh the Kremlin propaganda that is being widely spread.

L. Linkevičius also presented the priorities of Lithuania’s presidency in the Baltic Council of Ministers. In 2015, Lithuania is taking over the chairmanship from Estonia.
