LEADERSHIP OF THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENCE WILL MEET WITH CHAIRMAN OF THE EU MILITARY COMMITTEE GEN HÅKAN SYREN
On March 15 and 16 Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Gen Håkan Syren will pay a visit at the Ministry of National Defence where he will meet with Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Arvydas Pocius.
In the meeting with the Lithuanian defence leadership Chairman will be familiarized with the priorities of Lithuania’s forthcoming Chairmanship of the EU Council in 2013, cooperation of the EU countries in joint EU military operations, perspectives of developing EU’s military capacity and possible Lithuania’s contribution to that capacity, enhancement of the EU crisis response capabilities, an other points.
In Vilnius Gen H. Syren also plans seeing the members of the Committee on the National Security and Defence of the Seimas, leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, and to visit the Energy Security Centre.
The EU Military Committee is the supreme military institution of the European Union comprised of the Chiefs of Defence of the European Union countries. The Committee was first formed in 2001 to take charge of military action of the EU countries and render military advice for the EU Political and Security Committee shaping the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.
