LINGUISTIC JOURNEY TO THE OLDEST SPOKEN INDOEUROPEAN LANGUAGE AT THE OPEN DAY OF THE EU COUNCIL
On 4th May Lithuania will participate in the Open Day of the Council of the European Union. The future Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU will present itself through its language and will invite to a linguistic journey starting from the basics – the Lithuanian alphabet.
By presenting Lithuanian language, its roots and place among other languages of the world this exhibition will reveal crucial moments in history and give a deeper insight into the country.
Interactive tools, a language tree, word excavations and the Lithuanian alphabet, will offer a possibility to get more acquainted with the Lithuanian and to learn some words.
Open Day is an annual event that invites people to peruse a variety of information stands illustrating the work of General Secretariat of the Council of the EU, work of the EU missions and agencies. As usually, current and the future Presidency of the Council of the EU, this year Ireland and Lithuania, will take part in the Open Day.
The Lithuanian language exhibition is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania in co-operation with the Institute of the Lithuanian Language and designed by “Ekspobalta” Ltd.
Lithuania will hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU on the second half of 2013 for the first time in history.
