LITHUANIA ENCOURAGED ALBANIA TO CONCENTRATE ON STRIVING FOR A FASTER INTEGRATION IN THE EU
On 27 March in Tirana, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Vytautas Leškevičius met with Albania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmond Panariti and stressed that Lithuania has constantly supported the EU development policy in the Western Balkans and will support Albania’s aspirations to integrate the EU.
At the same time, Vice-Minister insisted on the fact that Albania’s official candidate status will depend on the reforms in the country and it aspirations for European integration. V.Leškevičius encouraged Albania to achieve the consolidation of its internal political forces, which is essential for a smooth implementation of the reforms.
On the same day in Tirana, Lithuania and Albania also held political consultations, during which Lithuanian diplomats discussed with Albanian Minister of European integration Majlinda Bregu and Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Selim Belortaja about the development of bilateral political and economic cooperation, joint activities in the international organizations and other issues related to Albania’s integration in the EU and some regional processes.
During the meetings, parties focused on the forthcoming Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, key issues in NATO agenda, as well as the Western Balkans region issues.
Vice-Minister noted that Lithuania is ready to continue to contribute to Albania’s preparation for the EU membership and is also ready to share its experience and knowledge in the field.
