Lithuania gets EUR 340 mln from EIB
VILNIUS, Mar 31, BNS - Lithuania on Tuesday received 340 million euros from the European Investment Bank (EIB), a third of the total agreed loan of 1.132 billion euros. Audrius Zelionis, the director of the State Treasury Department at the Lithuanian Finance Ministry, told BNS that the money had been transferred into a government treasury account at the central Bank of Lithuania earlier in the day.
The second one-third tranche of the EIB loan is expected to be released in October this year. The government and the EIB signed the loan agreement in mid-March. The money will be used for co-funding of 2004-2013 projects supported by the European Union.
The EIB has said that it will contribute to co-financing of projects,worth up to 9.564 billion euros, in the following sectors: infrastructure, transport, water, sewerage, health and education.
