LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER CALLS ON TURKEY TO CONTINUE IMPLEMENTING REFORMS FOR EU INTEGRATION

On 6 December at the OSCE Ministerial Council session in Vilnius, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis affirmed to Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu Lithuania’s consistent support for European integration aspirations of the country and encouraged it to further the reforms.

A.Ažubalis welcomed Turkey’s determination to continue the accession negotiations with the European Union and invited the country to further the progress.

“Lithuania monitors the ongoing reforms in the country closely and offers its support and European integration experience,” said Lithuanian Foreign Minister.

The conversation focused on possibilities to advance the cooperation of the countries within the OSCE and NATO frameworks and to strengthen economic cooperation.

Head of the Lithuanian diplomacy once again invited Turkey to become a party to the agreement between Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine on the container train Viking linking the Baltic and the Black Sea regions.

The project of the container train Viking has a great potential to strengthen economic cooperation between Lithuania and Turkey,” said A.Ažubalis.

From January to August 2011, the Lithuanian–Turkish trade volume amounted to 517.2 million Litas, which was 53 percent more than during the same period in 2010.
