LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND EU OFFICIALS DISCUSS LITHUANIA’S UPCOMING EU PRESIDENCY

On 25 October, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and EU officials, who are currently paying a visit to Lithuania, discussed the issues of the country’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2013, the EU’s relations with the U.S.A., Canada, Latin America and the implementation of the EU’s development cooperation programme.

On 24–25 October, Managing Director for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Christian Leffler, who is on a visit to Vilnius, and Director of the Latin America and Caribbean Department of the European Commission’s Development and Cooperation Directorate-General ‘EuropeAid’ Jolita Butkevičienė also participated in the discussion that was organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting and the discussion focused on the preparation for Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the EU in the second half of 2013. The guests also informed other participants about the functions of the EEAS and cooperation with the EU’s member states.

During the visit, the officials will also hold meeting with Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas (Parliament) Emanuelis Zingeris, members of the committee, advisors to the President and to the Prime Minister.
