LITHUANIAN IDENTITY: TEXTILE ART EXHIBITION, MUSIC AND FASHION DESIGN SHOW
On the occasion of the 93rd Anniversary of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU and Lithuanian artists invite you to the art exhibition and the unique cultural event “Lithuanian Identity: Textile Art Exhibition, Music and Fashion Design Show” which will take place on 3 February 2010 at 5.30 pm at the European Commission, Berlaymont building, Presidents’ Hall. The art exhibition will run until 22 February 2010.
Lithuanian Identity presents the textile exhibition The Passionate Textile, a fabulous product from various Lithuanian textile artists who relate their techniques to the themes of contemporary art in meaningful ways. Contemporary Lithuanian textiles take their inspiration from archaic folk culture and domestic life, but they still manage to express up-to-date manifestations of professional art. This presentation reflects the topicalities and trends in Lithuanian textile art of recent years and relations between the generations of artists.
The LT-Identity Collection by the costume designer duo Jolanta Rimkutė and Ieva Ševiakovaitė takes a new look at fashion. This innovative fashion project has been created by analysing the current cultural experience of the Lithuanian nation, looking for new national symbols and signs of the modern identity, and transforming them into amusing and high-spirited icons.
A String Quartet of young and talented artists will welcome listeners, performing music by the most famous Lithuanian composers. A small concert also will mark the 100th anniversary of the death of the world-famous musician and painter M.K. Čiurlionis.
Join us for the cultural evening, and discover the Lithuanian Identity through the passionate colours of textiles, the sounds of violin music, and find your own icons and symbolism in the Lithuanian fashion.
