LITHUANIAN PRESIDENCY PRIORITIES – IN FOCUS OF EUROPEAN ELECTRICITY INDUSTRY
Representatives of the association of the electricity industry in Europe Eurelectric believe that important steps towards implementation of ambitious EU energy policy goals will be made during the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council. This was in focus during the meeting of the Minister of Energy Jaroslav Neverovič and Secretary General of Eurelectric Hans ten Berge that was held today.
H. ten Berge stressed that finalization of common European energy market requires three elements: building necessary interconnections between the member states, establishing common regulation rules and harmonizing of the state support schemes. Minister J. Neverovič agreed and pointed out that single internal energy market is one of the main Lithuanian priorities during the Presidency. Lithuania will give special attention to this question.
Representative of Eurelectric also accented the problem of state support for different energy types. According to H. Ten Berge, state subsidies for individual energy types result in increased energy prices and create unequal conditions for energy producers. This means decrease of industry competitiveness.
Minister J. Neverovič and representatives of Eurelectric agreed on further cooperation during the preparation for Lithuanian Presidency and later on while seeking to successfully implement EU energy policy goals.
