LITHUANIANS WILL MANUFACTURE COMPONENTES FOR ESA SATELITE

April 21, 2011, mokslasplius.lt, Invest Lithuania. The Lithuanian company Optolita, part of the Eksma Group specializing in optical components, will produce high precision coated optical components for the satellite of European Space Agency (ESA). This satellite Earth Explorer Atmospheric Dynamics Mission (ADM-Aeolus) will be launched into space in 2013 to investigate Earth's atmosphere.

"Selection of producers took a few years, as satellite developers set very high quality and service requirements. We are happy that Lithuanian technology producers proved that they are able to participate in space programs,“ Mr. Rimantas Kraujalis, Director of Optolita, said.

ESA satellite ADM-Aeolus will be the first device that will allow to monitor atmosphere phenomena from the space. It will provide detailed global observations of wind profiles, cloud distribution etc. which will help improve the quality of long-term weather forecasts, lead to greater accuracy in scientific climate research as well as advance people‘s perception of atmospheric dynamics and climate processes.

Optolita exports 75 % of its products under the brand name "Eksma Optics" to more than 50 countries around the world. The rest of Optolita‘s production is supplied to Lithuanian laser technology businesses and scientific institutions.
