MINISTER OF ENERGY ARVYDAS SEKMOKAS: HISTORICAL DECISIONS WERE MADE
In less than 3 years Lithuania managed not only to adopt EU energy policy rules, but also to successfully adapt them while seeking main purpose of the country – to become a fully-fledged member of European energy market.
“These decisions are historical – from being isolated and energy-dependent state Lithuania is becoming a member of European energy infrastructure. This means that now we are participants of the creation of transparent and competitive European energy market,” said Minister of Energy Arvydas Sekmokas. Today Minister presented Lithuania’s progress while implementing strategic energy projects to the ambassadors of EU and NATO countries.
Visaginas nuclear power plant, a liquefied natural gas terminal in Klaipėda, the power interconnections with Poland and Scandinavia, the energy network integration into European power systems – these major projects will be essential Lithuania's contribution to the creation of the common European energy market.
“These projects will provide security of energy supply, competitive prices and economic benefit to the consumers,” stated Arvydas Sekmokas.
