MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENCE R. JUKNEVIČIENĖ WILL ATTEND NATO DEFENCE AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTERS’ MEETING
April 17, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė left for the NATO Defence Ministers and Foreign Affairs Ministers' meeting which will take place on April 18–19 in Brussels (Belgium). The meeting will focus on preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Chicago (USA).
At the meeting NATO Defence Ministers will address documentation for the Chicago Summit and the reform of NATO’s command structure and agencies reform. A common session of NATO Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministers will also be held where Ministers will join a common discussion over further NATO’s role in Afghanistan, give their views on NATO nuclear policy and the future of the US nuclear weapon in Europe, evaluate the progress in fulfilling the Lisbon decisions regarding creation of NATO missile defence, and discuss other points.
An informal EU Defence Ministers dinner will also be held. In the context of the upcoming NATO Summit in Chicago (US) discussions will focus on the further EU cooperation and sharing responsibility for security with the strategic partners in Europe – NATO and US, and determination of the EU countries to continue the development of joint military capabilities.
Moreover, a trilateral Baltic Defence Ministers’ meeting will take place where cooperation points significant to all the three Baltic countries will be discussed.
Minister is expected to return on Thursday.
