Lithuanian start-ups on the growth (LITHUANIA)
In the third quarter of this year, Lithuanian start-ups paid EUR 74.4 million in taxes–almost 45% more than during the same period last year. The number of professionals working in start-ups also grew by around a fifth year-on-year, while salaries increased by 14%.
Many Lithuanian squares have recently been reconstructed but have retained layers of city character entrenched in their tiles. Vingriai Stream Square in the capital, and the award-winning Unity Square in the second-largest city are some examples of Lithuanian architectural ingenuity, the fusion of the old with the contemporary, and public-serving functionality.
Dr Stephen Knox Jones Jr, a biochemist at Vilnius University (VU) Life Sciences Centre (LSC), and his team have received a prestigious €1.2 million grant. Awarded by the European Research Council, his Starting Grant is the first in Lithuania. Spanning the next five years, Dr Jones will lead a project entitled Profile nucleases and Repurpose Off-Targets to Expand Gene Editing, which aims to improve gene editing techniques.
Lithuanian energy companies and organisations have already provided specialised support for the repair and reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector for almost EUR 3 million. A further EUR 2 million support for the war-affected energy sector of Ukraine is currently being organised.
