The Medical Science Centre of the Faculty of Medicine at Vilnius University (VU) was opened on 3 October 2024 in Santara Valley in Vilnius. This marks the most significant investment in medical education infrastructure in Lithuania’s independence history. The new Centre’s primary goal is to convert fundamental scientific discoveries into medical solutions for practical use.
Lithuania is growing its space sector with the goal of making it account for 1% of the country’s GDP. Involvement in over 30 European Space Agency (ESA) projects has attracted more than €5 million in investments. Among these is the startup Supergarden, bringing nutritious freeze-dried food solutions from the supermarket into space with meals tailored to the astronauts’ national cuisines.
Delta Biosciences, a Lithuanian life sciences company, is the first company in Europe to be selected for NASA’s Space-H accelerator programme, which promotes advanced space-based healthcare technologies. The door was opened by an R&D contract signed in 2023 with the European Space Agency (ESA), with which the company has started developing chemical compounds to protect astronauts from radiation on deep space missions. Together with NASA, Delta Biosciences will contribute to innovative solutions in space health care, helping to prepare for the coming leap in human civilisation – deep space missions.
In a historic achievement, Lithuania has been named the second-best travel destination in the world for 2025 by one of the world’s largest travel guide publishers, Lonely Planet. The Baltic nation, which also ranked first in Europe, is among 10 global destinations recommended for travellers to visit next year, topped only by Cameroon.
