Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine has revealed a harsh reality: the limited military capabilities of Western countries, the slow response of the European Union's defense industry to the dramatically increasing demand for weapons, and, in many cases, a lack of political will. This situation poses an existential danger to the European security architecture. The enemy is on the eastern borders of NATO and the EU, and threats are also increasing in the south: from destabilization in the Sahel region to the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East. Lithuania fully understands the threats arising from its direct proximity to Russia and its satellite, Belarus.
“Vytis” Initiative: €300 Million to Boost Lithuania’s Defense Industry (Invest Lithuania)
The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation of Lithuania, together with the Innovation Agency, has launched the “Vytis” initiative – a strategic effort to strengthen the country’s defense industrial capabilities, promote innovation, and enhance international competitiveness. The initiative is backed by €300 million in funding.
