President Adamkus calls on international organisations to send urgently an international peace-making mission to Georgia

Wednesday, August 13, Tbilisi – President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus held a press conference together with President Lech Kaczyński of Poland, President Victor Yushchenko of Ukraine, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves of Estonia, President Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia and Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis of Latvia in Tbilisi.
Talking about the situation in Georgia President Adamkus said we must look at the roots of the conflict and deal with this problem in the essence. "The reality is that Georgia's right to fully exercise its sovereignty has been undermined. Georgia's power of control over its own territory is merely 'paper'," Mr. Adamkus said.
Lithuania's Head of State urged to cease fire and to withdraw occupation troops  from Georgia's territory immediately, and called on international organisations to send urgently an international peace-making mission to Georgia to monitor the implementation of the fundamental principles of freedom and free self-determination.
According to President Adamkus, every effort must be made to ensure that the events that happened in Munich back in 1938 leading to World War II do not repeat.
"The world must finally wake up and take action," Mr. Adamkus said.
