PRESIDENT ON A STATE VISIT TO LATVIA

President Dalia Grybauskaitė has commenced a state visit to Latvia. She will meet with Latvian President Andris Bērziņš, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and Speaker of the Parliament Solvita Āboltiņa.

The visit will focus on bilateral relations, cooperation in NATO and the European Union, negotiations on the EU’s new financial perspective. Cooperation in the sphere of energy and the strengthening of energy security of the Baltic States will be among the key issues.

“Lithuania and Latvia are the closest neighbors who have always acted in concert. We share many common goals. The strengthening of energy security of the Baltic States, common interests in the European Union and NATO are underlying items on our agenda which we are striving to implement together,” the President said.

The President is going to visit the Incukalns LNG storage facility which could become regional in the future. Upon constructing the liquefied natural gas terminal in Klaipėda, Lithuania expects to use the capacities of this storage facility more extensively.

Dalia Grybauskaitė will also lay flowers at the Peace Memorial and will visit the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia.
