PRIME MINISTER: EUROPEAN COMMISSION INVESTIGATION ON GAZPROM CONFIRMS LITHUANIA’S STEPS
According to Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, the European Commission’s decision to launch an investigation on Gazprom activities only confirms Lithuania’s position in its dispute with the Russian gas giant.
“Reports on antitrust investigations only confirm the matters which we have repeatedly spotlighted. We can only reaffirm that Lithuania addressed the EC Competition Directorate back in the spring of 2011”, said the Prime Minister speaking about the EC investigation on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the European Commission reported that it had launched an official antitrust investigation on Gazprom regarding three allegedly anti-competitive practices in Central and Eastern Europe. It expressed its concern about a possible abuse of Gazprom’s dominant market position by restricting the free flow of gas across member states, preventing diversification of supply, and pricing gas unfairly by linking gas prices to oil prices.
