Prime Minister Opened Exhibition in Brussels

Yesterday the Prime Minister has opened an exhibition of video installations titled “Vilnius in the Air” at the building of the EU Council. The exhibition is part of a programme of events “Vilnius – the European Capital of Culture 2009”, to mark the millennium of the first written reference of Lithuania’s name.

“I hope that an innovative and playful project “Vilnius in the Air” offered by young artists will properly reflect and convey the spirit prevailing in our capital – and soon, in the capital of culture for the whole Europe”, said the Head of the Lithuanian Government.

“We feel proud, honoured and happy with the trust shown by the Council of the European Union by nominating Vilnius as the European Capital of Culture among the first cities of the New Member States. With the feeling of great responsibility, we have developed and are implementing a new and ambitious programme aimed to enrich the European cultural experience. The programme, where culture becomes an integral part of a contemporary life, and each individual will contribute to its development. “Culture live”, as the programme of Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009 is called, has been designed as a creative laboratory open to the world and to people, represented by all social, cultural, ethnic and minority groups”, Prime Minister Kirkilas said at the opening of the exhibition.
