Respect were paid to those deported by the Soviets by reading their names at the European Parliament in Strasbourg
On 14 June, an event commemorating the victims of the Soviet mass deportations, initiated by MEP Rasa Juknevičienė, took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
This was the third commemorative ceremony held under the auspices of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and will henceforth become an official and traditional event of the European Parliament, contributing not only to strengthening the historical memory and awareness of Lithuania, but also of the other nations that suffered from the repression of Stalinism.
The names of the exiles were read from the traditional lists by MEPs, representatives of the EU and national institutions, and ordinary people of goodwill. The event was attended by Ambassador Andrius Namavičius of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Lithuania to the Council of Europe and Minister Counsellor of the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union Valdas Verbus.
