STATEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: RUSSIA IS THREATENING TO ARM THE BALTIC SEA FLEET WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS - THIS IS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE
It is entirely unacceptable that Russia is threatening to arm the Baltic Sea Fleet with nuclear weapons and aim them at Poland and the Czech Republic, as a response to the willingness of these countries to join the U.S. missile defence system.
Once again we would like to indicate that the U.S. missile defence system is not projected against Russia. Therefore, such a statement has no rational reason. This can be solely assessed as Russia’s rough pressure on the sovereign neighbouring countries, which it would still prefer to hold in the zone of its influence.
Such a recurrent statement reflects Moscow’s policy of the latter years. The culmination of this policy we can see today in Georgia. Therefore, Lithuania assesses such statements very seriously and considers they should not remain unanswered.
