THE PRESIDENT DISCUSSED LITHUANIAN-POLISH RELATIONS WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF POLAND

President Dalia Grybauskaitė, currently attending the European Council meeting, discussed with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the bilateral relations of Lithuania and Poland – incumbent holder of the EU presidency.

The President extended congratulations to Donald Tusk on the victory of his party Civic Platform in the elections to the Polish parliament.

Dalia Grybauskaitė and Donald Tusk agreed that further good neighborly relations based on mutual understanding and partnership was a common goal of both countries. They favorably assessed the work of the bilateral commission of education experts formed in September.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė also had bilateral meetings with Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, and Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt of Denmark.

Dalia Grybauskaitė and Catherine Ashton discussed the EU foreign policy and Eastern Partnership issues. The President also congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister of Denmark. Dalia Grybauskaitė and Helle Thorning-Schmidt agreed to discuss the bilateral relations of Lithuania and Denmark at length next Friday during the Danish Prime Minister's visit in Lithuania.
