THE PRESIDENT TO MAKE AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO ROMANIA
On Wednesday, September 12, President Dalia Grybauskaitė is going for a reciprocal official visit to Romania. She will meet with Romania's President Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Victor Ponta and Speaker of the Senate Crin Antonescu.
The visit will focus on bilateral relations, the situation in the European Union, negotiations on the EU's new financial framework, cooperation within NATO, and energy security issues.
According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, Lithuania and Romania share very similar interests in the sphere of energy. Both countries are dependent on a single supplier - Gazprom. Therefore, their key priorities include the search for alternative sources, the construction of power links, the implementation of liquefied natural gas terminals and nuclear power projects. Lithuania and Romania also have another common goal - to join pan-European energy market.
As a country looking for gas supply alternatives, Lithuania values Romania's contribution to developing the European interstate gas pipeline network.
The agenda of the visit will also include the discussion of negotiating positions on the EU financial perspective 2014-2020.
