THE PRESIDENT: UNITED EXTERNAL POLICY WILL HELP OVERCOME THE CRISIS AND STRENGHTEN EUROPES'S ROLE IN THE WORLD
Wednesday, September 15, Vilnius - President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė will attend an extraordinary meeting of the European Council in Brussels.
The European Council and ministers of foreign affairs will gather to discuss ways to ensure better coordination of the EU's external policy and to develop relations with Europe's strategic partners, with particular focus on cooperation with fast-growing economies of Asia: China and India.
"Energy security, climate change and non-discrimination trade will be among the top issues to be taken into account by the European Union in shaping its foreign policy and relations with partner countries," President Dalia Grybauskaitė says.The EU leaders will also discuss the Medium-Term Report on Economic Governance produced by the Task Force chaired by the President of the European Council, Hermann Van Rompuy.
Prior to the European Council meeting, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will attend a meeting of Nordic-Baltic heads of states, who meet to discuss ways to strengthen regional cooperation, their national positions on relevant EU-related issues, and their concerted action to seek European support for the development of the region.
