Minister J. Neverovič expressed his content that a lot of attention in the European Union policy is paid to the finalization of single energy market. This issue is one of the main priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency of the European Council in the second half of 2013. According to the Minister, transparent and competitive energy market will contribute to the energy security of the whole continent and will also ensure the end of the Baltic region energy isolation.

Minister also presented the progress of the strategic energy projects that are implemented in Lithuania. These projects will guarantee the diversification of Baltic energy supplies and will decrease the dependence on single supplier. The Ambassador assured that USA strongly supports the efforts of the Baltic region to liberalize energy market. The importance of cooperation in the field of energy security was also stressed during the meeting.

One of the possible ways to strengthen Lithuanian energy independence – exploration and extraction of shale gas supplies. This remark was made having in mind the successful USA experience in the field of shale gas.
